Saturday, April 28, 2012, Goodyear is hosting the 12th annual ENGINEERING CAREER DAY. It will be held at Firestone High School at 333 Rampart Ave, Akron, Ohio 44313.
MISSION of Engineering Career Day:
The purpose of this event is to inform and encourage young women and young men in grades 6 through 12 to pursue opportunities and careers that exist in the various engineering disciplines.
Goodyear will accomplish this mission by:
- Sponsoring Engineering Career Day event on April 28, 2012
- Providing grant opportunities for high schools to initiate the activities that support the purpose of this event.
- Sponsoring with select participating universities individual scholarship opportunities to high school seniors in order to promote awareness and career opportunities in the fields of engineering.
We would like to invite those interested in engineering, math, science, or computers to attend along with a parent, guardian or teacher. The program begins at 8:00 a.m. (Student Registration) and concludes at around 2:30 p.m. Please see the "Agenda" tab for additional information on the activities of the day. There is no registration fee and T-shirts and lunch will be provided free of charge. Students must register in advance in order to plan appropriately for materials and refreshments. Event participation will be limited to the first 750 students to register. Registration opens January 4, 2012 and the deadline is Friday, April 15, 2012.

New This Year
- Male and female students are encouraged to participate this year
- Schools will be competing for $17,500 in grant money
- Video submissions from high school teams
- $20,000 in scholarships awarded to high school seniors
High School Grant Competition Details
(Engineering Career Day participants include 6th – 12th grade students. However, only 9th – 12th grade students are eligible for grant competition.)
Video (40% of total score) - Full Details and Registration Form
- Video submission prior to event
- One team per high school
- At least 50% of team must be high school females
- Creatively describe why the school deserves the grant money and what the school would do with the money that would support the Engineering Career Day mission
Participation (30% of total score)
- The percentage of high school participants at the Engineering Career Day event as a percentage of each high school’s enrollment
Hands-on (20% of total score)
- Teams will receive points during the Goodyear sponsored engineering hands-on activity
- Activity will be announced on the day of the event (April 28, 2012)
Engineering Challenge (10% of total score)
- Top 4 performing high schools participate in the engineering challenge
- Selection is based on video, event participation, and hands-on scores
- Teams of 4 representatives (at least 2 females) from the 4 finalist schools to compete in the day's last event in 3 rounds of excitement
- A quiz-game will take place based on facts, concepts, and equations in the subject of math, science, and engineering questions
- Final scores will be weighted and added to final score to select grant winners
