Engineering Career Day for Young Women Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy governs the collection of information on the website related to the Engineering Career Day for Young Women hosted by The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company ("Goodyear")  located under the domain located at http://www.goodyear.com/careerday/ ("Career Day website").  Goodyear's general Privacy Policy applies to all other sites available through the www.Goodyear.com domain, unless otherwise noted.

Goodyear considers personal information, such as your name, postal and e-mail addresses or telephone number, to be private and confidential.  In addition, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA") requires that we inform parents and legal guardians about how we collect, use, and disclose personal information from children under 13 years of age; and that we obtain the consent of parents and guardians in order for children under 13 years of age to use certain features of our Career Day web site.  Below we explain how we do that for these "children." Also, when we use the term "parent" below, we mean to include legal guardians.

Information Collection

When you browse the Goodyear Career Day web site, you do so anonymously because personal information is not collected through this process.  Should you choose to register for the Career Day event, the registration page of that web site requests that you voluntarily supply us with personal information to register to participate in the Engineering Career Day for Young Women.  The information collected in the Registration process is:

  • name of the student being registered to participate in Career Day (the "Student");
  • age of the Student;
  • the Student’s school grade level;
  • the name of the Student's parent;
  • the email address of the Student's parent;
  • the telephone number of the Student's parent;
  • the home address of the Student's parent; and
  • the school that the Student attends.

This information is necessary for purposes of registering to participate in Career Day.

            Personal Information

Through the use of an age verification mechanism, Goodyear has taken special precautions on the Goodyear Career Day web site to avoid the collection of personal information from children under the age of 13.  When a visitor attempts to register for Career Day on the Goodyear Career Day web site, they will be asked to enter their age.  If the age entered indicates the person is 13 years old or younger, access to the registration page will be denied and the visitor will be directed to a website providing information about how a parent may register a child.

If the age entered indicates the person is 14 years of age or older, the visitor will be permitted to register for Career Day.  This portion of the Career Day web site is designed for students 14 years old and older to register themselves.  For children  13 years old and younger, parental registration is required.

In every circumstance where we receive a registration form for Career Day, Goodyear will generate a confirmation email to the parent using the email address provided on the registration form.  If the parent refuses to allow the child's registration for Career Day, and the child is under the age of 18, we will delete the child's information from our database and the child will not be permitted to participate in Career Day.  If we do not hear back from the parent within 48 hours, we will assume it is acceptable for the child to be registered and participate in Career Day.

            Non-Personal Information

The Goodyear Career Day web site tracks information about the visits to that site.  For example, statistics are compiled that show the daily number of visitors to the Career Day site, the daily requests received for particular files on the Career Day site, and from what location those requests come from. These aggregated statistics are used to customize the Career Day web site to better meet your needs and may also be provided to others, but the statistics contain no personal information and cannot be used to gather such information.

The Goodyear Career Day web site may use "cookies" or "web beacons." A "cookie" is an element of data that a web site can send to your browser, which may then be stored on your system.
