Goodyear Eagle F1 Garners Major European Magazine Praise

COLMAR-BERG, Luxembourg – Not once but three times, Goodyear’s new Eagle F1 ultra-performance tire earned high praise in the toughest proving ground in the automotive industry.

In Germany, the new tire was featured in the July 2002 issues of Auto Zeitung, Sport Auto and Auto Bild. Eagle F1 was introduced in Europe earlier this year.

Auto Zeitung magazine highly recommended the tire in its "Summer Tire Test." The magazine said Eagle F1 provided the quietest, most comfortable ride and came in "far ahead of the other models" in a wet-traction test.

Sport Auto magazine also recommended the Eagle F1 against five competitors. In one of the magazine’s tests, Sport Auto reported that the Goodyear tire "came to a stop more than four meters ahead of its rivals."

Auto Bild tested seven 17-inch tires in its "Test & Tuning" section, finding the Eagle F1 "exemplary" and lauding its overall performance. "We are not looking for specialists, but rather all-rounders which pass the test on wet and dry roads alike. The Goodyear achieves peak values on the waterlogged course, but also takes first place on the dry track."

In August, Auto Bild published a second comparative test with 18-inch tires, which confirmed the excellent performance of the Eagle F1 in this size.

Also in Europe, British automobile magazine EVO tested eight premium brand performance tires on a test track and country roads in the south of France, using a Ford Focus ST170. Awarding points for grip, stability and steering on wet and dry surfaces over a five-day period, the new Eagle F1 won with the highest aggregate score across 11 tests.

The Goodyear tire won outright in both wet and dry braking and shared first in a wet lateral test. EVO test drivers also unanimously voted Eagle F1 the best tire on subjective points. No driver knew the identity of the tires when they performed the tests.

Marketing Manager Bob Toth said: "If you look at conventional tires, the horizontal grooves in the tread are usually interrupted by cross groove patterns. This means the contact between the tire and the road surface is broken at regular intervals.

"But with Eagle F1, the tread runs uninterrupted from shoulder to shoulder – like a racing slick – and ensures that in both straight driving and cornering, there is always a very large contact area with the road," Toth said.

The centerline – which also runs continuous – delivers a very direct and "sporty" steering behavior, Toth added.
