Do you know a Highway Hero?
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s North America Highway Hero Program began in 1983 as a grassroots effort to elevate the image and public awareness of the responsible elements in the trucking industry. Convinced that trucking’s “bad apples” receive the majority of attention while the “good guys” generally are overlooked, Goodyear launched the North America Highway Hero Program to locate, honor and publicize those truck drivers who clearly qualify for the rare label of “hero”.
An annual nationwide search is conducted with nominations accepted from the general public, trucking companies and law enforcement agencies for truckers who have clearly gone above and beyond the call of duty in performing heroic rescues or outstanding acts of humanitarianism. A panel of transportation media representatives and industry officials judges nominations.
The program’s goal is to inform the broadest possible public audience of the heroic deeds performed by North America Highway Hero nominees, thereby improving the image of the trucking industry and its drivers. Nominations from among the 50 states and all the provinces of Canada are accepted.
Once the nominations are narrowed to four finalists, media attention is directed even more to the program. Extensive television and print media coverage is possible from the national awards announcement.
