Firestone High School
STEM Career Day has been split into two separate events so we may better address the needs of students who are at different points in their pursuit of a career in STEM. One event will be held for high school students, with a subsequent event for middle school students. Both events will focus on exposing students to careers in STEM , applying engineering acumen, working as a team, and learning more about the opportunities available to them.
The high school event will focus on career opportunities in STEM with presentations from professionals in the field, a live grant competition, interactive activities to showcase their problem solving skills, a tour of The University of Akron, and professional mentoring. Several scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors.
The middle school event will include speaking with professionals in STEM fields from over 50 local businesses and universities, hands-on activities, an information fair, and more.
Goodyear welcomes all students enrolled in grades six through 12 to participate in these free events:
The high school event will be for grades nine through 12.
The middle school event will be for students grade six through eight.
Teachers, parents and guardians are welcome to accompany their students as well.
PLEASE NOTE: Parents must sign a Consent and Release Form electronically during the registration process. If not completed, students must bring a signed paper form on their respective event day in order to be allowed to participate. Student registration is available here.
All students will register as individuals. A portion of the day will be free roaming throughout the event and a portion will be an assigned schedule.
All individuals and groups who submit applications for monetary awards must be present at the event to receive the award if chosen.
Individual registrants will be assigned to a group. He or she will walk through the day with this group and will participate in all hands-on, engineering challenges, interactive activity sessions and lunch with this group. Groups will be limited in size to 30 students. Parents and guardians are welcome to accompany their student and his or her group as they rotate through the various parts of the day.
Goodyear will make every effort to keep those that register as a group together. Due to group size, some groups may be split to accommodate the 30 person group size limit.
